Great places to escape to in October half term

Whilst the kids have only just headed back to school for the start of the new term, it’s not too early to start thinking about what you want to do with October half term. By that time the nights will be drawing in and the British summer will be but a distant memory, so why not consider a break away for a few days or more to help break up the long autumn term. Here are our top suggestions both abroad and within the UK:

Dubai – Those looking to top up their tan at the end of October will enjoy the ten hours of sunshine on offer in the UAE’s largest city, with temperatures regularly reaching the mid-to-high 30s. The travel time is around seven hours, but children will find themselves welcome and well looked after in many of Dubai’s hotels once they get there. The beautifully white sandy beaches aren’t too bad either.

Berlin – Those looking for a city break will find some great value flights and accommodation in the German capital during the autumn half term. There’s plenty to do with historical places of interest, the city zoo and numerous opportunities for retail therapy.

Bath – Another great city break, this time within the UK, Bath has plenty of history to take in with both the Roman Baths and the Jane Austen Museum. Wookey Hole Caves, Stonehenge and Longleat Safari Park are all easy to get to from the city, offering plenty of opportunities for family excursions too.

The Cornish coast – A visit to the seaside isn’t just a summer activity, with Cornwall offering picturesque coastal walks and great outdoor activities including cycling excursions, surfing and dolphin-watching. October half term might fall slightly before Hallowe’en night, but there are still plenty of spooky events going on for small and big kids alike, including the October Half Term Spooktacular at Lands End.
