Alternative ways to spend a Bank Holiday weekend

In a month that has two bank holidays and with the long Easter weekend not that far behind us either, perhaps you’re looking for something more fulfilling to do with your next three day weekend than sit in a beer garden hoping for more than five minutes of sunshine at a time or yet another Netflix box set marathon. We know we certainly are, so here are a few suggestions of different ways to make the most of your next bank holiday weekend:

  1. Seek out a local event – There’s always something going on not too far away from you on a bank holiday, as event organisers take advantage of the long weekend to put on something a bit different. Check out your local museums and attractions as they’ll often put on one-off events aimed at keeping you and your family entertained without breaking the bank.
  2. Venture a little further afield – On most regular weekends, it’s likely that you’ll end up in the same old haunts simply because that’s the easiest thing to do. With no work on Monday, however, there’s an extra reason to explore a bit further than normal, so why not find somewhere not too far from you that’s always slipped under the radar and see what you can find?
  3. Support some live entertainment – The TV’s still going to be there after the bank holiday, so a long weekend is the perfect excuse to find some live entertainment and try something different. Whether it’s music, theatre or comedy, catching a live show is a great way to get yourself away from the remote control, and you’ll be supporting your local live entertainment industry too. And, if you can’t find an event to suit you…
  4. …Do it yourself! – A three day weekend is the perfect excuse to push the boat out and put on your own event. Even a simple dinner party or garden gathering with friends and family can be a great way to break up the routine, but if you’re looking for more of a challenge, why not go for something more complex. If you’ve got some musical mates, why not try an open mic night, or if you have a flair for theatre, put on your own murder mystery evening. Push your creative limits and see what you can do!
